ECO Stewardship Through evidence

We commit to walking woodland paths with care, recording what we find with rigour, and reporting what needs fixing without fear or favour.

Open Woods is an eco-guardian to the woodlands that cannot speak for themselves and for the humans and wildlife who benefit from their existence.

Why We Exist

Open Woods exists to conduct independent, open-source investigations of public footpaths in ancient woodland landscapes. We document accessibility barriers and environmental harm, and put the evidence into the hands of government, environmental protection agencies, journalists, and the local community responsible for protecting these irreplaceable places.

We share our findings openly so others can replicate our work in their own communities or stand with us to advocate here in Enfield Chase. We are on a mission to protect the woodlands for future generations of walkers and to hold politicians to account for their safety and upkeep.

Our initial three-month project to scope and develop methods is now underway in 2026 for the public benefit of walkers. Our gratitude to the Enfield Society for their generous support; without their initial funding, we could not have created this.

If you see us with our GoPro in the woods, please do say hello.
